Hello! I had a really good experience in the Boston Logan Southwest Terminal. Although it's the most elegant terminal, it's user-friendly and effective. There was adequate staff to respond to inquiries, and the check-in kiosks operated efficiently. It was convenient to navigate because the boarding gates were close to the main entrance. The service at the coffee shop outside Gate 8 was excellent! If you're there for a long time, the main drawback is the restricted selection of food. However, the serene ambiance and pristine surroundings more than compensated for it. It's a good terminal all around, and I would gladly go back.
The Basics: Getting There & Checking In
Whether you want to drive yourself, use an Uber, or use Boston's metro system, Logan is quite easy to get to. In order to go to the airport, I took the Silver Line from South Station, which is, incidentally, free. It is really convenient as it drops you off at Terminal B. Parking can be expensive if you're driving, although all terminals, including B, are reasonably accessible from the Central Parking Garage. The first thing you notice when you enter Terminal B's southwest side is how airy and light the area seems. It features a somewhat modern design, high ceilings, and a good amount of natural light—at least throughout the day.
Inside the Terminal: Amenities & Atmosphere
You are at the center of the Southwest gates after passing security. This is where things become a little more complicated. This area of Terminal B is unquestionably smaller than the rest. Although there aren't many fine eating alternatives or upscale stores, it does the job. You have the essentials: a Wahlburger (which is also very Boston), Dunkin' (since it's Boston), and a couple other quick-service restaurants. There are some snack kiosks, a sit-down bar/restaurant, and a pizza shop. Nothing fancy, but solid enough for a pre-flight bite. You may be a little disappointed if you were hoping for fancy lounges or an abundance of food alternatives. But if you’re looking for efficiency and a low-key, less chaotic environment, you might be pleasantly surprised. I’ve had flights from here that were delayed, and even then, it never felt like the terminal was overly crowded or stressful.
Boarding & Gate Areas
The gate spaces sometimes have a "people standing around awkwardly" vibe because of Southwest's renownedly unusual boarding procedure, which involves no assigned seats but only boarding groups. The gate staff here, however, usually keeps things going. There are clear announcements, timely updates, and an overall structured boarding process, or as organized as Southwest boarding can be. I value the staff's sincere efforts to maintain a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere the most. During a recent flight I was on, the gate agent was making jokes over the intercom and actually got some laughs out of an early-morning, exhausted audience. It made a difference.
Cleanliness & Comfort
This is where Terminal B's cleanliness, at least on the Southwest side, truly caught me off guard. As in, remarkably clean. The flooring and seating spaces didn't feel dirty or neglected, and the restrooms were always in good condition—a true miracle. The maintenance crew here clearly takes joy in what they do, and it shows in the quality of your trip. The terminal isn't very large, but if you need to stretch your legs, there's enough room to walk a few laps. If you're a bit of an aviation nerd like myself, you'll also appreciate the good window views of the tarmac and aircraft.
Final Thoughts: Would I Recommend It?
With reasonable expectations, yes. If you're traveling from Southwest Terminal Logan flight, you'll use Terminal B. The good news is that it's a really good terminal. It's utilitarian, tidy, and comparatively quiet. The experience is more intimate than businesslike, the amenities are minimal, and the personnel is generally friendly and helpful. It's a simple and somewhat more human experience, which is why I enjoy traveling Southwest in general. This is not the place to locate spa services, upscale lounges, or fine eating opportunities. But Terminal B at Logan is a great place to go if you want a quick check-in, a tidy terminal, welcoming staff, and good food options before your flight.
