- Forming the Wicket
The wicket becomes defined by stumps that rise along with the positioned bails for the top. The wicket functions as a fundamental feature since it is the designated region which bowlers try to strike when they want to remove a batter from the game.
The pitch ends feature three stumps which the bails must rest on top of each stump. Defense of the wickets becomes necessary for batters during their turn at bat.
- Indicator of Dismissals
The bails signal the dismissal of a batter to other players. For instance:
When a batter receives a bowled ball, the stumps become an out if the ball knocks the bails off.
A batter who gets removed from the game through running will see the fielders break the stumps adjacent to the striker's position before the batter reaches the crease.
The wicketkeeper uses a stump-breaking method to eliminate batters after they leave their playing position.
